RYOBI Router keeps cutting out

Cutting out could be a result of Many varied reasons from the bit, tool use, power supply or application.

Inspect Bit

  • - A worn, blunt, or improper type bit is a big reason a tool might stop prematurely. Regularly inspect the bit for any signs of damage (broken teeth, bending, wear and tear, etc), and replace if necessary - ensuring to replace the damaged/broken bit with one of the same types, for the material you are routing.

 

Inspect the Application

  • - Check that the material that is being routed is secured properly; - material that has excessive movement may work against the tools cutting action, bind or pinch the material, causing the tool to stop or kick.
  • - Check the bit for its cutting and material capacity – Usually this will be labelled on the bit or the bit packaging.

 

Inspect Battery

  • - Check the battery charge level – it is normal that a battery will lose some minor power output as the charge level drops. If the charge level is too low, the tool may stop under load. In this case you may need to charge your battery or change battery.
  • - Routers have high power draw compared to other tools, consider using a larger capacity battery for optimal performance.

 

Inspect Power Cord

  • - If you have a Corded Router, unplug the unit from the mains power before inspecting your cord for any signs of damage or fraying, before inserting back into a working mains power outlet.
  • - If you have a corded tool, ensure the power cord is in undamaged shape and undamaged.
  • - If using an extension cord, do not exceed 25m as this causes power drop off.

 

Inspect the Tool

  • - The Tool may be cutting out or losing power from overheating. This can be caused by the Tool being used beyond its working capacity, either from too much load /Force or frequent excessive use. For specific capacity ratings for each Tool, please consult the product manual which is provided with the Tool or on the Ryobi website product page.
  • - If your Tool has cut out, remove the Tool from the workpiece, check the battery charge level and try the tool under no load.
  • - If it operates you may be able to continue at a slower speed or with less force if the Tool is being used within its capacity.
  • - If it does not operate, disengage the battery from the Tool and let the Tool and/or battery cool down for 30 minutes before operating again.

 

If the issue is not resolved after checking above, and the Router is still within the warranty period, take it back to Bunnings along with your receipt or proof of purchase for warranty assessment.
