How to Use the RYOBI Drain Auger

Before You Start

  • Read the manual thoroughly before operating the tool.
  • Wear protective gear:
    • Gloves (never latex or loose-fitting gloves).
    • Safety goggles or face shield.
    • Rubber gloves under protective gloves if chemicals or bacteria are suspected.

Remove the battery before making adjustments or handling the cable.

Step 1: Prepare the Tool

  1. Position the drain auger within 100 mm of the drain opening for best performance.
  2. Ensure the drain port is closed during operation to prevent splash back.

Step 2: Set Up the Cable

  1. Ensure battery is removed from the Drain Auger
  2. Set the auto feed mechanism to the manual position
  3. Set the cable clamp switch to the unlock position
  4. Feed the cable manually into the drain, about 10 to 15 cm.

Step 3: Operating the Tool

  1. Insert a 18V ONE+ battery into the Drain Auger.
  2. Set the Auto feed mechanism to the Auto position.
  3. Set the cable clamp to the unlock position.
  4. Set the direction of rotation to the forward position
  5. Hold the tool firmly using the front hand grip and insulated handle.
  6. Press the switch trigger to start rotation.
  • Use the direction selector to choose forward rotation for clearing blockages.

7.   Allow the cable head to keep turning while the cable rotates.

  • Do not let the head stop while the cable is moving, as this can damage the cable.

8.    Keep allowing the cable to feed into the drain until resistance is felt

9.    If resistance is felt, ease off and allow the cutter to work through the blockage gradually.

Step 4: Removing the Cable

  1. Release the switch trigger and wait for the cable to stop rotating.
  2. Set the direction of rotation to the neutral/locked position
  3. Set the cable clamp to locked.
  4. Gripping the tool firmly, gently manually pull on the clog to loosen it.
  5. When the clog is moving freely, unlock the cable clamp, set the rotation to reverse and squeeze the trigger to start withdrawing the cable from the drain.

NOTE: Do this slowly to reduce splashback

6.  Withdraw the cable head fully out of the drain. Stop squeezing the trigger when the cable head is visible and pull out the rest of the cable manually

7.  Run water to ensure the clog is fully cleared

8.  If not repeat the process.

9.  Clean the cable with hot, soapy water after use to remove debris and bacteria.

Step 5: After Use

  • Remove the battery.
  • Wipe down the tool and cable.
  • Open the drain plug and release any excess water after use.

Important Safety Tips
