How to fit a Router bit to a RYOBI Trim Router

11/02/2025, 13:38

Trim routers accept a wide variety of router bits to provide a different cutting, routing, or trimming finish.

All Ryobi Trim routers will accept a ¼” or 6.35mm router bit into the collet.

Before starting, turn off and disconnect the trim router from power (Battery or AC).

Also, for best access to the collet, we recommend removing the adjustable base.

  • Start by press and holding the spindle lock button, located above the collet.
  • With the collet facing away from you, unscrew the collet nut clockwise with the supplied wrench, to loosen and remove the nut and collet.
  • Insert the shank of the desired bit into the collet nut and slide the collet over the shank. The shank should sit flush with the top of the collet nut.

  • Insert the collet and collet nut, with the desired bit into the drive shaft.
  • Press and hold the spindle lock and tighten ANTI - clockwise with the supplied wrench. Ensure the bit is tight in the collet.

Please note:

It is also possible to install the desired router bit without removing the collet and collet nut from the driveshaft, instead by loosening the collet nut enough to allow insertion of the desired bit. In this instance, insert the bit shank fully, and then pull the bit back out, at least 3mm or 1/8” so that the bit is not bottoming out in the driveshaft. Then tighten clockwise until the bit is tight.
