Why Does My RYOBI 18V/36V Chainsaw Leak Oil When Not in Use?
It’s normal for some bar oil to seep from a chainsaw during storage. This happens because the air inside the oil tank expands and contracts with temperature changes.
- During warm periods, the air expands and pushes oil through the system.
- During cooler periods, the air contracts, continuing the flow.
This cycle can cause small, gradual oil leaks even when the saw isn’t running.
Other factors that increase oil leakage include:
- Overfilling the oil reservoir
- Storing the chainsaw on uneven or unstable surfaces
To reduce or prevent leaks:
- Empty the oil reservoir before long-term storage.
- Clean the chainsaw after each use.
- Store the unit in a cool, dry location on a flat, stable surface.
