Difficulty removing a router bit
Are you using a suitable wrench?
- Always use the correct wrench or tool provided by RYOBI for changing bits.
- Using the wrong tool can make it harder to loosen the collet nut and may damage the tool.
Has the collet nut been overtightened?
- An overtightened collet nut can be difficult to loosen.
- Use the appropriate wrench (included with the Trim Router, or a 17mm or 19mm wrench) to turn the collet nut anti-clockwise—opposite to the bit’s rotation.
Is the bit stuck in the collet?
- Bits can become stuck due to dust, debris or corrosion.
- Ensure the Trim Router is unplugged or the battery is removed for safety.
- Apply a penetrating oil or lubricant to the collet and bit.
- Allow time for the lubricant to penetrate before attempting removal.
Is the collet nut properly engaged?
- The collet lock button or mechanism must be engaged to hold the spindle in place during bit changes.
- Locate and engage the spindle lock before loosening the collet nut.
Is there dust or debris in the collet or around the bit?
- Inspect the collet and bit area for foreign objects or build-up.
- Carefully clean out any debris to ensure smooth operation and bit removal.
