Engine may be flooded
A flooded engine will cause the unit to not start. A flooded engine means there is excessive fuel pumped into the engine which has displaced the oxygen needed to start the unit.
We recommend letting the unit sit for 15-20 minutes before starting it again following the correct starting procedure.
Stale Fuel
A common cause is stale fuel, fuel starts to lose its volatility after 30 days. This will affect the ignition of an engine. Replace fuel with some fresh fuel and see if this improves. Fuel stabilizer can also be purchased to keep fuel fresh for 12 months.
Incorrect fuel mixture
Incorrect fuel mixture can cause the unit to not start or run roughly.
Make sure the correct fuel mixture is being used. RYOBI petrol units run off a 50:1 ratio - this means 50 parts unleaded fuel to 1 part 2 stroke oil.
Choke left on
The choke being left on will cause the unit to not start. When starting the unit, make sure it's in the run position. Make sure to follow the correct unit starting procedure.
Not adding 2 stroke oil to the fuel
Incorrect fuel mixture can cause the unit to not start or run roughly. If you haven't added the 2-stroke oil, you need to drain the fuel and add the correct oil to petrol mixture listed in their manual. Ryobi Petrol units run off a 50:1 ratio, this means 50 parts unleaded fuel to 1 part 2 stroke oil.
