How to feed the timber:

This is always done from the switch side for a couple of reasons:

  • The first being that there are powered rubberised rollers that assist you by pulling the timber through.
  • The second are the “non-return fingers”, which prevent the timber from kicking back out during the planning processes, protecting you from potential injury.

How fast to feed the timber:
  • The timber is slowly feed through at the right speed automatically by powered rubberised rollers. It's important to assist them when feeding and by pulling the timber through.
  • Never let the rollers do all the work of feeding the timber, otherwise you can overload the motor and wear the rollers out prematurely.

How much material you can feed:

  • Though 3mm is the recommended maximum amount, this will depend on the hardness of the wood.
  • The harder it is, the less per pass you should take off. Keeping to around 0.5-1mm per pass may take longer, but this process not only prevents motor overload, but it also generally results in a better finish.
