Chainsaw Stops Cutting Mid-Log? Try These Checks

1. Is the chain tensioned correctly?
A loose chain can slip, stall, or stop cutting altogether. Use the side tensioning knob to tighten it so the chain lifts slightly from the bar but still moves freely by hand (with the saw powered off).

2. Is the chain dull?
A dull chain won’t bite into the wood and will bog down mid-cut. If you see fine dust instead of chips or need to push hard, sharpen or replace the chain.

3. Are you forcing the saw?
Let the chain do the work. Excess pressure slows the chain, increases friction, and can stall the cut. Maintain light, steady forward pressure.

4. Is the battery low or overheating?
On battery models, low charge or thermal protection activation can cause cutting power to drop. Swap in a fresh battery or allow the tool to cool before continuing.
