Bit slips out of RYOBI Impact Driver when driving screws

26/02/2026, 14:47

Impact driver bit compatibility and usage tips

1. Bit compatibility

  • Impact drivers are designed to accept only ¼” (6.35 mm) hex shank bits.
  • To insert a bit, push it into the chuck until it clicks into place.
  • To remove the bit, pull back the chuck sleeve—it cannot be removed by simply pulling on the bit.

2. Preventing bit slippage

  • Inspect the bit tip for excessive wear—worn or low-quality bits are more likely to slip.
  • Use the correct bit type and size for the fastener. Refer to the fastener packaging for guidance.
  • Hold the impact driver straight and apply firm pressure to ensure a secure connection between the bit and fastener.
  • When driving screws, apply forward pressure on the screw while gradually increasing pressure on the trigger.
