The scalloping is known as "Snipe". It’s caused by the operator tilting the material at the beginning and/or at the end of the planing path.
It's important to feed and support the timber as it exits the machine as parallel to the table.
This is more difficult when handling longer lengths of timber, which requires a second person to assist with supporting the timber. Having timber longer than you actually need will allow for some head room for snipe.
