RYOBI Jigsaw does not cut square

Why Is My Jigsaw Blade Bending During Cutting?

If your jigsaw is not cutting straight or the blade is bending, it may be due to one or more of the following reasons:

Common Causes

  • Blade condition: The blade may be excessively worn, bent, damaged, or incorrectly installed.
  • Blade quality: Low-quality blades can warp or deform under load, even if they appear straight after use. Higher-quality blades are usually thicker, stay sharper longer, and resist bending.
  • Material mismatch: Using a thin blade on thick material can cause deflection. Always match the blade thickness to the material being cut.
  • Tool movement: Jigsaws are free-moving tools, so human error can cause the tool to drift from the cut line.

How to Prevent Blade Bending

  • Use the correct blade: Choose a blade suitable for the material thickness and type.
  • Check installation: Ensure the blade is properly seated in the clamp and locked securely.
  • Upgrade blade quality: Invest in premium blades for better rigidity and durability.
  • Guide the cut: Use a straight edge or guide to help maintain a straight line.
  • Avoid forcing the tool: Let the blade do the work—excessive pressure can cause bending.
  • Slow down your cutting speed: Moving more slowly helps maintain control and reduces stress on the blade, keeping it straighter during the cut.
