RYOBI Circular Saw won't turn on

What to Do if Your Circular Saw won’t turn on

Safety First

1. Disconnect the power source

  • For corded saws: unplug from the mains.
  • For cordless saws: remove the battery.

This prevents accidental activation while troubleshooting.

Step-by-Step Checks

1. Check the power supply

  • For corded models: inspect the plug and cable for damage. Try a different socket.
  • For cordless models: ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly seated.

- Test the battery in another Ryobi ONE+ tool: If the battery might be faulty, fit it into another compatible tool. If the second tool also cuts out or fails to run, the battery may need replacing.

  • Ryobi ONE+ Circular saws perform better with larger Ah batteries. We recommend 4Ah batteries and above.

2. Clean the saw

  • Dust build-up around the motor vents or trigger can cause overheating or poor contact. Use a dry brush or compressed air to clean.

3. Check the trigger and lock-off button

  • Make sure the lock-off button isn’t stuck and the trigger moves freely. Dirt or debris can jam these controls.

4. Examine the blade and guard

  • A jammed blade or stiff guard can overload the motor, causing it to cut out. Ensure the blade spins freely and the guard moves smoothly.

5. Confirm overload and overheat protection

  • All Ryobi saws include overload and overheat protection. If the saw stops during heavy cutting, allow it to cool for 10–15 minutes.
  • Check that your application is within the specifications in the manual (e.g., correct blade size, material type, and cutting depth). Overloading beyond these limits will trigger protection and stop the saw.

6. Test with a different battery or power source

  • If possible, swap to another battery or extension lead to rule out power issues.

Final Tip

Always use the correct blade for the material and avoid forcing the saw. Overloading can trigger cut-outs and damage the tool.

If the issue isn’t resolved and the Circular Saw is still within the warranty period, take it back to Bunnings along with your receipt or proof of purchase for warranty assessment and replacement.
