How to use a Ryobi Planer
Safety First
- Always remove battery before making any adjustments to the planer

- Setting up the planer
- Set the chip exhaust to desired direction and attach the dust bag to the selected exhaust
- Adjust the depth adjustment to your desired level.
- It is typically better to start when a lighter cut (0.5mm to 1mm) as this allows greater control and a smoother finish. If the material removal is too slow the depth can always be increased.
- Check the router blades are chip free. DO NOT TOUCH the blades without gloves.
If the blades are chipped, either flip the blades (blades are double sided) or replace them.
- Setting up the work piece
- Set up your work piece in a clean, well lit and ventilated area
- Ensure there are no nails, stapes or other debris on the path of the cut.
- Ensure the workpiece is securely fixed or clamped.
- Set up the work piece so that you can plane along the grain which will leave a better finish.
- Using the planer
- When ready to go, insert battery or plug in planer.
It is recommended to use a 4Ah or larger battery if possible. - Always keep 2 hands on the tool at all times.
- Always let the planer get up to full speed before engaging the cut.

- Making the cut
- Position the planer so that the front flat of the planer is resting on the workpiece, but the blade is off the workpiece.
- Start the planer by pushing in the lock-off button then pulling the trigger.
- Allow the planer to reach full speed before engaging in the cut
- Push the planer, with the grain, smoothly and steadily through the cut. Try to keep even pressure throughout.
- After the cut
- When placing the planer down, do not let the Blade rest directly on a surface.
- Place the planer down using the built in kickstand to keep the blade off the surface or on its side.
- Storage
- Before storing the planer remove the battery/disconnect from power.
- Dial the depth adjustment back to the lowest setting.
