How to Install an SDS Bit
Important: Always remove the battery or unplug the tool before installing or removing any bit.
Step 1: Prepare the Tool
- Clean the SDS chuck to remove dust or debris.
Step 2: Check the Bit
- Inspect the SDS bit for damage or excessive wear.
- Make sure the bit type (SDS+, SDS Max) matches the chuck type.
Step 3: Apply Grease
- Apply a small amount of SDS chuck grease to the shank of the bit before insertion. This reduces friction and wear.
Step 4: Insert the Bit
- Pull back the chuck sleeve (the outer collar of the SDS chuck).
- Insert the SDS bit into the chuck while keeping the sleeve pulled back.
- Push the bit in until you feel it engage with the locking mechanism.
Step 5: Lock the Bit
- Release the chuck sleeve.
- Pull the bit outward slightly to confirm it is locked in place (it should not come out easily but should rotate and move slightly back and forth, this is normal for SDS systems).
Step 6: Test Before Use
- Reconnect the power or battery.
- Run the tool briefly at low speed to ensure the bit is secure and operating correctly.
